About the Cause

Thanks to RM150,978.50 raised in January 2023, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Mikhalai (a Registered Non-Profit organization, operating as Mikhalai Learning Centre), moved from a small home to a proper shoplot classroom, providing a better space for our students.

We know donors and friends may have questions about MLC’s journey, sustainability, and future plans. Here are some FAQs to help everyone share their story with clarity and confidence.

How did the school get its name?

When Mikhalai felt called by God to start a school, she sought advice from church members. A Bishop suggested naming it after her, and so Mikhalai School of Destiny (MSOD) was founded in 2016. Over time, it was shortened to MSOD for easier recall.

Why did MSOD change its name to Mikhalai Learning Centre (MLC)?

When the Ministry of Education required that only licensed schools could use the word ‘school’ in their name, the Board recommended a change. MSOD was then renamed Mikhalai Learning Centre (MLC), which now serves as our brand name under Pertubuhan Kebajikan Mikhalai.

How does the school sustain itself?

For many years, MLC relied on the faithful support of a small group of donors and business owners. To ensure stability and growth, it was formally registered in March 2021 as Pertubuhan Kebajikan Mikhalai (Reg. No: PPM-010-14-10032021). After three years of audits, we will be eligible to apply for tax-exempt status. At present, however, we are not yet tax-exempt.

Why did you relocate from a residential area to a commercial shop lot?

The move was driven by two needs: neighbors raised concerns about noise, and we needed more space for classrooms and a conducive learning environment. In early 2023, a charity carnival raised RM150,978.50, which made this relocation possible.

How many children does MLC support today?

Currently, MLC provides education, meals, shelter, and care for 40 children. Based on inquiries and recommendations, more students are expected to join in late 2025 or early 2026.

Is MLC a registered organization?

Yes. MLC operates under Pertubuhan Kebajikan Mikhalai, a registered non-profit organization approved by the Registrar of Societies on 10 March 2021.

What is your long-term vision for the children?

Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty through education. Beyond basic care, we aim to equip children with knowledge, values, and skills to reintegrate into society, pursue further studies, and build a dignified future.

How can I help apart from donating?
